René Ornelas was the one with the melodious voice and dreamy looks. He was the lead singer of René y René, the pioneering ’60s and ’70s pop duo that was bilingual before bilingual was cool — or viewed as commercially viable. Today, at 70, he has a new partner. He likes to say he signed a new contract, this time with the supreme promoter.

He’s building a career in Christian music, recording three CDs, “I’m a Christian,” “The Lord Is Alive” and the latest, which is still in production.
