REVIEW: GRITS “Redemption” (CMT)

GRITS is done. Maybe not done as in “their career is done,” but they’re done anyway. More specifically, they’re done with Christian music. They’re through with it. If you asked them, they’d probably tell you they want nothing to do with it. That includes record labels, radio, or retail.

They’re the best-selling rap group in Christian music history—half a million albums sold and counting—but that doesn’t matter to them: GRITS is moving on and they’re not looking back. Or so they say. They’re leaving behind their own history. Redemption, their seventh album proper, is their last one for Gotee Records. They’re the cats that first gave the GRITS guys a chance. The duo was then mere dancers for a little group named dc Talk, but Gotee believed anyway, slowly beginning to build their platform.
