REVIEW: Apologetix “Wordplay” (CMT)

Wordplay is the thirteenth album from Christian parody band Apologetix, and while they have an unquestionably loyal fan base, the makeup of that fan base is somewhat mystifying. Is the target audience kids or adults? Christians or non-believers?

Ideally all the above, though I remain skeptical. Sure, astute parents who keep up with their children’s music may recognize reworked versions of Bowling for Soup’s “1985″ and Velvet Revolver’s “Slither.” But will kids in turn appreciate nods to Whitesnake’s “Here I Go Again” or Joe Walsh’s “Rocky Mountain Way” from twenty to thirty years ago?       I am a huge gospel music faan but I have never heard of this group. Are they new?…don’t think so if they are releasing their 13th album. Maybe becos, as u sed in you post, they don’t really appeal to the christian audience. Anyways, love your site.

      Apolgetix has been around for a long time, but they are not signed to a major label so some may not be familiar with their music. They are like a Christian version of Wierd Al. Check out http://www.apologetix.com for more information on the group.
