Christian Hip Hopper John Reuben is back with Word of Mouth, probably John Reuben’s best work yet! With catchy lyrics, edgy beats, interesting effect usage, and a new vocal style for John Reuben I find Word of Mouth very pleasing. I’m typically not a fan of Hip Hop, but Word of Mouth is an album that I’m comfortable listening to. My favorite track on Word of Mouth is probably the second track called “Trying too Hard.” The song starts out with a very catchy… oh buddy the freaks come out at night till they can longer afford to socialize… then it goes into the main beat of the song. Jeremy Camp has always been known to write songs from wherever he is in his life journey, be it in the midst of the heart-wrenching loss of his young wife (his debut album Stay), or the restoration following such a tragedy (his third project Restored). His new album, Beyond Measure shows the restoration even more clearly. It is full of hope and contentment, and overflowing thankfulness. Camp says, “This album shows even more what God has done in my life than Restored. It’s a little more personal to me, more like Stay, but musically and vocally it is leaps and bounds above both. This album is so diverse, but in such a good way. It’s ME. Period.” [
It’s been two years since much-lauded worship leader and songwriter Chris Tomlin has released a full-length CD with all-new material. Since then, he has participated in the annual worship-filled Passion events, which provided us with sneak peeks of new worship songs, and written and released a book. He also released Live From Austin Music Hall, a unique live recording.
“September 12th is our remix record Exit Lights. We just basically took a bunch of our songs off of our first record and our second record just too kind of make a new thing and show our fans and show people we can expand on musical ideas, and so there are some real techno stuff in there, and then there are some dance things, and more rock, electronic stuff, so it’s just got a lot of different vibes on it. We just kind of experimented, and there’s also one brand new song. It’s the first track, so it’s all together a diverse record for us and just a fun little thing, we just hope people can understand that we just wanted to mess around.” [
Essential Records artist Krystal Meyers is back with her sophomore effort entitled, Dying for a Heart. Over the past year since Krystal’s debut release she has been very busy playing in front of hundreds of thousands of fans, receiving lots of radio time and to top it off touring around the world and having huge success in Japan! Krystal is quite accomplished for her age! In Dying for a Heart Krystal shows maturing lyrics and a new musical direction blending into a great album. From beginning to the end Dying for a Heart brings forth a new edgy rock blend with a small hint of pop/rock to put a very good combination of songs. Some of the songs aren’t very original, but that evens out with the great lyrics. [
Adrienne Camp, née Liesching, returns to the music scene not with a progressive rock disc reminiscent of her past role of being front woman of The Benjamin Gate, but with a more acoustic project. The ironically titled Don’t Wait comes after a four year absence from Adie, and it shows a different side of her than most of her fans have previously heard. Don’t Wait is beautifully produced and mixed, and Adie’s voice is smooth and clear. Her husband, Jeremy Camp, lends his talent to the strong song writing and production. [
Skillet is back! Finally! After nearly three years after the bands hit album, Collide, the band brings together something new, fresh and awaking, which is appropriate, because the album is entitled, Comatose. Like in the past, Skillet has always tried something new with each album; Comatose has plenty of experimenting and changes, which brings out more originality and uniqueness, which most bands will never have. Over two years after the bands amazing album, Where Do We Go from Here, Flicker recording artist Pillar is back with the bands fourth, full length album, The Reckoning. Thirteen tracks, almost fifty minutes long, and Pillar has them self another great album! The Reckoning is well worth the wait that many Pillar fans have had to endure since they’re last project.
[Music Faith] First off, can you tell me a little about Underoath for those who haven’t heard much about you? [Grant Brandell] Well, we’re a Christian heavy rock band. That’s probably the simplest way to put it. [Music Faith] How did you guys get started in music? [Grant Brandell] Everyone in the band has their own story, whether it was through family or music in church or whatever. Basically we all started playing in bands in high school and jumped from band to band till we all ended up in Underoath. [
