I was two weeks old when I was adopted. I jokingly tell people that it was the hardest two weeks of my life with all the paperwork involved, but after I got through that, everything has run pretty smoothly.
But seriously, in March of ‘03 before a concert, I was talking to two ladies over dinner that were helping backstage. By coincidence, they both happened to work at an adoption agency. Upon learning I was adopted, one of the ladies asked me if I had ever met my birth mom. “No,” I said, “I really never had a desire when I was growing up.” “Why not?” she asked. I told her I had a great mom and dad and besides, “If my birth mom was really interested in me why wouldn’t she have kept me instead of giving me up.” It seemed strange to seek out and find someone who never really wanted me in the first place. Pain comes in all shapes and sizes, and for Tricia Brock, lead singer of Superchick, it came in the form of a break up. After the long-term relationship with her boyfriend ended, Tricia found herself feeling lonely, sad, angry and betrayed.
On Course: How did you become a Christian? Chris: The turning point in my life was in junior high. There was a lot of crazy stuff that I was starting to experience for the first time. So, I really started to turn to my youth group and get plugged in. I was in choir in junior high. I started doing DeGarmo and Key kind of stuff. I wanted to go to a different school where I felt like I could really grow. That’s why I transferred to a Christian high school. From there, I started to grow even more and take my faith more seriously. [
