Canadian rock band, Starfield have been touring behind their latest release, Beauty in the Broken with such hits as “My Generation” and “Son of God” making serious waves on the radio charts and now heading to the Shai Awards in Edmonton on January 25 with their fellow nominees. Amy Hammond Hagberg recently sat down with frontman Tim Neufeld to discuss the release. [
He’s an acoustic singer-songwriter. He’s hip-hop spoken word. He sings like Coldplay’s Chris Martin and is reminiscent of Johnny Cash. Mat Kearney may be a lot of things, but bored at life, that he is not.
Georgia rockers Third Day are on the road and loving it. Soul Shine’s own Wes Holing sat down with drummer David Carr and guitarist Mark Lee to talk about tourism, Invisible Children, and their favourite bands before they hit the stage with David Crowder Band in Saginaw, Michigan. Wes Holing: “First of all, how’s the tour going?” David Carr: “It’s about half way through, and it’s going well. We’ve found fall is a very tough time to tour. There’s all these reasons people give as to why numbers aren’t quite as great in the fall as they are in the spring, all sorts of stuff competing. I don’t know if any of those are the reason, I think it’s just sometimes things work better than others. [
In 2004, Dove Award winning band, Building 429, exploded on the music scene with their mega hit “Glory Defined,” hitting #1 on eight different radio charts. In March 2006, their sophomore album, Rise was released. Amy Hammond Hagberg recently caught up with lead singer, Jason Roy. AH: How did you come up with the name Building 429? JR: Well, my wife came up with that name. We had written probably two or three pages front and back of all these different dumb names, you know. [
New Orleans based rockers Mute Math have taken their unique sound, which incorporates elements of industrial, reggae, jazz, new wave, electric and psychedelic music, all over the United States. But the band that consists of vocalist, and keytar player Paul Meany, drummer, Darren King, guitarist Greg Hill and bassist Roy Mitchell-Cárdenas, took it to Toronto for the first time on November 9, 2006. Still touring behind the success of their debut self-titled record, Meany spent a moment with Soul Shine to talk about the band’s journey so far. [
